Santa Maria, a traditional Mallorcan town in the heart of the island surrounded by a wide area of plain green land and with luscious mountain tops in the far distance.

Most commonly known for their Sunday flea market, a popular one in Mallorca, where you can find an array of the most local produce like Mallorcan wines, oils, freshly made jams, and locally crafted clothing. It is a bustling environment on the main high street that will leave you wanting more. You might also find a few great bargains if you walk around the backstreets and discover some of the trendy boutique stores that might catch your eye.

People flock to Santa Maria on Sundays from all over the island, both local Mallorcans and foreigners here on holiday, it is a place of total diversity. Whilst rummaging around the stalls, you can also take a break in one of the cafes on either side of the market where you’ll find freshly made local tapas bars and wine bars where you can go up to the barrel yourself and fill up your glass or box of wine to go, for a very reasonable price.

The gastronomy in Santa Maria is also something to definitely check out, from the typical tapas bars to the unique dining experiences such as Sa Torre de Santa Eugenia. This is a special dining experience located in the old wine cellar of the Santa Eugenia hotel, keeping with the rural style of the location it offers a high-quality signature menu that changes weekly providing innovative dishes. There is something for every tastebud in this town. There are also a couple of the most popular wine productions on the island of Mallorca such as Macia Batlé. Here you can go and spend an afternoon tasting some of the crisp local specialties in the fresh air of the vineyards,  a very special treat.

Living in Santa Maria means you’re within 20 minutes distance from the centre of Palma, but still far enough to get the countryside spacious feel.
